Alberto Von Fach
Biography
Matter, form and memory
Alberto Von Fach is a Chilean-born sculptor and painter based in France. Arriving in Paris in the early 1980s, he has developed over several decades an international artistic career built through sculpture, painting, exhibitions, salons, galleries, monumental works and cultural encounters.
His path is part of a creative continuity spanning nearly half a century. From his first plastic explorations to his large-scale works, Alberto Von Fach has continuously questioned matter, form, memory and the inner presence of materials.
His work emerges from a deep dialogue with matter. Stone, wood, bronze, metal, Carrara marble, jasper, granite, lapis lazuli, malachite, pink stone from the Andes and millenary alerce become the supports of a search in which each material preserves its own strength, history and presence.
Art critic Nicole Lamothe emphasizes in his work an inhabited relationship with matter, gesture and feeling. In Alberto Von Fach’s work, sculpture is not merely an external form: it becomes encounter, tension, memory and transformation. Matter seems to carry an inner history that the artist listens to, reveals and extends.
Chilean by origin, Alberto Von Fach maintains a deep bond with the landscapes, stones, woods and memories of his native country. Chile remains for him a territory of energy and origin, whose materials and landscapes nourish an essential part of his visual imagination.
Through sculpture, he explores volume, balance, verticality and the tension between raw and polished surfaces, between mineral strength and organic movement. His works stand between abstraction and suggested figuration, at times allowing a face, a body, a presence, a myth or a form in becoming to appear.
His monumental works extend this research into a direct relationship with scale, place and public space. They inscribe matter into landscape, architecture or environment, opening a dialogue between sculpture, territory and collective memory.
His painting continues this same search in the field of colour, texture and light. The canvas becomes another territory of matter, vibration and memory, where the pictorial gesture enters into dialogue with the sculptural universe.
Presented in France, Belgium, Chile, China and various international contexts, his work bears witness to a dense career built across studios, exhibitions, salons, cultural spaces, heritage sites and monumental projects.
Alberto Von Fach’s work does not seek to impose a single reading. It opens a space of contemplation, leaving each viewer free to enter the matter, project their own sensitivity and discover their own resonance.
Gaze
The work does not dictate an answer.
It opens a space of encounter between matter, form and the one who looks.
